Networking is KING (and Queen)!!!

SUCCESS NIGHT
Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 1:00-4:00 pm

Employment Services for YOU, the small business owner!
Now that summer is fading away, it’s time to get back to business … in a big way! Read carefully as things have changed up a bit from previous gatherings.

We’re looking to attract the masses for some October networking to coincide with Small Business Month and we’re looking for your confirmation now. Representatives from the YMCA, Northern Lights, VPI, John Howard Society, COFRD, Durham College and DRLTB (to name a few) are being invited to speak at what we’re calling a Success EVENT. We are encouraging everyone to attend this one, not just past graduates, as each organization will be present to speak briefly about what they can do for you as a small business owner. Many will be able to help you find that perfect employee to add to your team. Others will be able to assist you in training your staff to that next level. And perhaps you would like to come out just for the chance to network with a fantastic pool of people. Continue reading

Presenting Your Own Workshop

OSEB Workshop - Teaching & Training:

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 9:30-3:30

Teaching a workshop gives you an opportunity to showcase your knowledge. It positions you as a “subject matter expert” —someone to answer questions, supply goods or services and offer advice. It’s an opportunity to express yourself creatively and to share with others what you’ve learned over the years about your field. But while many presenters know a lot about their chosen subject, few really know how to present what they know. It’s been said that good training is three quarters entertainment and one quarter preparation. I think it’s really the other way around—-in order to be a good teacher or trainer, you need more than memorable presentation skills, you need memorable material. You also need to understand how to plan, design, and sell the course. You need to understand how the course material will be received and “taken up” by the trainees and whether or not they will be able to apply the concepts and skills they gain in real world situations.

This lively 5- hour workshop covers the basics of adult education. It will help you assess your own teaching strengths and weaknesses and will give you some insight into the learning style of others. You’ll come away with the fundamentals of workshop design and delivery—from assessing needs and setting objectives to organizing course content and managing time. You’ll have a proven process for planning and marketing your own course as well as some practical tips on managing the audience and its interactions. In short, you’ll have the basic tools to begin creating your own workshop–a workshop that will promote you as a credible, effective and dynamic expert in the field.

There is no cost for OSEB members to attend this workshop; however, we would like to extend the invitation to attend this workshop to non-OSEB members. If you know a friend who would like to attend, the fee is $59.99 plus hst.  There is limited space for this workshop, so OSEB members will be granted the first opportunity to attend.  Other interested individuals will be contacted if space permits.
