Spring looks like it’s finally starting to show itself! Does this mean your business could use a kick-start? Maybe something is needed to help obtain more leads?

Networking is an essential part of your sales.  Making new connections on a regular basis link+buildingkeeps you in the know of what is going on in your community and business area but also ensures your potential clients know of your existence.

For our special May Success Night, we have planned to have a cross section of local networking groups to come and present to you.  Not only will this give you more information from their presentations, but you will have an opportunity to discuss one on one any specific details you would like to know.  Specifically, what their organizations can do for you.  We will send out a list of attending groups closer to the date.

Date: Tuesday, May 14th
Time: 6:00pm- 8:00pm
Where: Essential Communications
              101 Dundas Street West

SUCCESS EVENT
Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 pm

Social Media Can Help!

Do you tense up whenever you hear the words “social media”? Or maybe it’s not that bad and you just need some encouraging thoughts. We’re putting together an interactive Success Event that you’ll want to attend. Even if you consider yourself a whiz in the area, you’re more than welcome to pop by!

Things change fast in this market and we’re here to help. Multiple Social Media Gurus are going to come together to give their personal tips on ways you can improve your business with things like Facebook, Twitter and even YouTube. More details will follow but be prepared for breakout rooms, laptops, smartphones and clocks. Rather than have a lecture, we’re aiming to have you learn and have fun at the same time. We’ll come together for a Q&A before the evening is over. And of course there will be an Impact Award to hand out!

When:  Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 6pm-8pm
Where: Essential Communications – 101 Dundas Street West, Suite 201, Whitby
Guest Speakers: Various Gurus To Be Confirmed – update: Leslie Hughes from PUNCH!media as well as Cathy Rankin and Lesley Kelz from Burst will be there!

Agenda
6:00 – 6:15: General Networking and Impact Award
6:15 – 7:25: Social Media Breakout Sessions
7:25 – 7:40: Q&A in Classroom
Time permitting: Formal Networking

Please RSVP to Bev by return email or at 905-668-4141 if you plan on attending.  If you are bringing guests please let Bev know when you respond. You are welcome to show off your business cards and/or brochures on tables for all to see – your option!

.: It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas :.

Since it’s snowing in the area today, thought a quick update to remind everyone of the Holiday Potluck was in order. Yes, we’ll be hounding you about it until you RSVP!

So far we have some lovely decor from both Annie Lane Events & Decor and Plant Rocks. We also have a ***PHOTO BOOTH *** lined up with Kerri Davis at Images By Kerri. I’d be re-missed if I also didn’t mention the fantastic napkins coming in from Helen at Personalized For You!

So far the dishes coming in sound divine. To make things easier on you, an RSVP page has been set up on Facebook over here … simply use your account to say you’re coming, too, and we’ll add you to the list.

Once again, Thursday, December 15th at 6:30p.m. in the Essential Communications training room. BE THERE!

.: Joy in YOUR Kitchen :.

Recently one of our shining grads, Joy Vogel-Lahti, sent in some pictures of a function she was hired to cater. We asked her to do a bit of a write-up as well so everyone knew more details. Congratulations Joy!!!

“Hi Susan
Thanks for the interest!
This was actually already in place previous to the Success Event, it was
actually originally scheduled for the same day and got pushed out b/c of the
Success Event.  They approached me after finding me on the OSEB database – I
believe that Bev recommended me as she did give me a heads up that they may
be calling.
Sandra Van Mil called me asking for a quote for their Open House.  They
needed sandwiches for an open house for about 100 people as well as tea and
coffee.
Like, my frozen food line – I offered to provide them with healthy
sandwiches featuring meats & options that were not cold cuts, pumped full of
nitrates and preservatives.  All meats used in my sandwiches are
preservative free and roasted fresh, served on a variety of different
breads, multi grain ciabatta buns and wraps.  I created an array of
sandwiches with items such as Roasted Turkey, Ham, Tuna, and Cream Cheese &
Cucumber.  I also provided 2 signature sandwiches featuring my own homemade
barbecue sauce “The Joy of BBQ”, a barbecue turkey wrap and a one a BBQ
vegan wrap (Roasted Delmonico Squash with BBQ sauce and shredded cabbage)
which was a huge hit!   In fact, when I was at my local farmers (Svetec
Farms) picking up my veggies the next day, I was telling “Farmer Paul” about
how popular the vegan BBQ sandwich was and one of his employees overheard me
and let me know there had been someone at the farm getting veggies shortly
before that – that must have attended the event at Meta as they had been
telling her about how good the vegan sandwich was!  All feedback that has
been received and has been extremely positive.

Bonus info for you -
Also providing breakfast burrito’s and soups for the Mad Cafe downtown
Oshawa, and soon to be expanding to other restaurants and Bistros as well.

Cheers!

Employment Services for YOU, the small business owner!
Now that summer is fading away, it’s time to get back to business … in a big way! Read carefully as things have changed up a bit from previous gatherings.

We’re looking to attract the masses for some October networking to coincide with Small Business Month and we’re looking for your confirmation now. Representatives from the YMCA, Northern Lights, VPI, John Howard Society, COFRD, Durham College and DRLTB (to name a few) are being invited to speak at what we’re calling a Success EVENT. We are encouraging everyone to attend this one, not just past graduates, as each organization will be present to speak briefly about what they can do for you as a small business owner. Many will be able to help you find that perfect employee to add to your team. Others will be able to assist you in training your staff to that next level. And perhaps you would like to come out just for the chance to network with a fantastic pool of people. Continue reading
